In this provocative discussion, Stephen A. Smith raises a fascinating question about NBA history and team dynamics, challenging conventional wisdom by pondering if a trio of white stars can truly drive a team to an NBA championship. Drawing from basketball history, he highlights the rarity of seeing a team succeed with its three highest-paid players all being white. Although Stephen acknowledges past instances like the Minneapolis Lakers of the early 1950s, he points out this hasn’t occurred in over half a century. Dive into this thought-provoking analysis of race, sport, and success in professional basketball as Stephen invites viewers to engage and possibly refute his claims with factual evidence. Perfect for those interested in NBA history, dynamics of winning teams, and racial diversity in sports.
If I sat up there and I told you that white dudes can't play, that's a racist ass statement. I would never say that because it would be factually incorrect because I've seen too many that can flat out ball. What I haven't seen is an NBA team go the route of leaning on three of their top players, all being white, all being the highest paid, and that delivering you the chip. I have not seen that. I have seen it happen with black players. I haven't seen it the other way around. In the sport of basketball, if you have a problem with it, refute it factually and I'll stand corrected and be like, damn, I didn't think about that. Like when my boy brought up the Minneapolis Lakers, yeah, from 1949 to 1954, he got me. I didn't go back that far. For the last half century, if not longer, I have not seen it. That is the subject of all of this.
