Maroon 5 was looking to get Questlove to come in and work on the show, work on the live show. And this was 16 years ago, so the roots had just gotten Jimmy Fallon. There wasn't even the Tonight Show yet, they got Fallon. And so Amir couldn't do it, recommended Adam Blackstone. And Adam, so Adam got the gig, right. But then they asked Adam, do you know any keyboard players that can sing? We're looking for some extra keys. He was like, oh, done. I know the guy who could play and sing. He called me. He like, P, would you want to be in Maroon 5? You want to tour with Maroon 5? I'm like, yeah, I love Maroon. I love Maroon 5. And at that time, I was kind of burnt out on my thing anyway. So I'm like, I'll take it. It's a welcomed. Let me switch it up. He called, hang up. I'm like, y'all, I guess I'm about to do Maroon 5. Then he called back. He's like, man, they want you to audition. He was like, because they don't know you and it could go another way. And I'm like, all right. So so at that point, I had never done an audition because, you know, I'm PJ and usually is word of mouth. Right. So I'm on my tour. I canceled the last three dates of my tour. And and I go to L.A. They tell me to learn Sunday morning. I learned Sunday morning. It's pretty simple. But I could tell when I walked in the room, just the vibe. I'm like, these feel like my my musician friends. Like they just felt like, you know, not knowing it. They've been a band since eighth grade, like kids that grew up together. So I play Sunday morning. They're like, well, what else, you know? I'm like, I know, you know, this church. I'm in the church. I know this one. Hold on. Yeah, it's really what it was. And we start jamming, actually. And they it's almost like they forgot. And then he told me later, you know, that they canceled the next day of auditions and all of that. But we started just playing and it was like, oh, man, we got we actually got other people we got to see. But I kind of knew like it just felt good. So they saw the rest of the people that day and call me soon as I got to my hotel room like you, you're in the band. And I didn't know how long that was going to last. I was just supposed to do a tour. Yeah. And then I mean, it turned into 16 years.
